Learn the Guitar Solo in Horse With No NameGuitar Lesson For Intermediate Guitarists

Hey there and welcome to the School of Feedback
Guitar YouTube channel! This is a guitar tutorial on how to play the guitar solo in Horse With
No Name by America. Here's the finished product of what you'll learn by the end of this tutorial: This solo is given a 5 out of 10 difficulty
rating because it requires alternate picking, slides, and some fancy fretwork. This solo
is appropriate if you've learned about 15 to 20 guitar solos already. Do not attempt
to play this solo if you're brand new to learning solo guitar.

There are three skills you need
to be somewhat familiar with before you attempt this solo: alternate picking, slides, and
fast movement on one string. This solo is played on acoustic guitar, though it could
be easier and sound pretty cool on electric guitar. This tutorial is a transcription that
will teach you a note-for-note version of the solo. The benefits of learning this solo
are many: You'll become more familiar with alternate picking, slides, and moving across
one string very quickly.

These are skills that translate to many other guitar solos.
This tutorial is based off of the studio recorded version of the song. I strongly recommend
downloading a MP3 copy of Horse With No Name for yourself. First things first: I am positive that the
more we listen to a guitar solo, the more we can hum it, sing it, and know what's happening
in it beforehand, the easier it will be to learn to play it. My first suggestion is to
memorize the solo and hum or sing along with it before you get started with learning it
on guitar.

Just this one step will save you many hours of frustration. Horse With No Name's guitar solo can basically
be divided into three parts: The slide part, the tremelo part, and the fancy picking part.
I'm going to quickly show you how to play these parts and leave the details up to you.
If this tutorial goes too fast for you and you want more detail on how to play these
parts, my suggestion would be to purchase the module I made specifically to learn and
master this guitar solo. Okay, let's jump into it. Here's the slide part: You're going to start on the fifth fret with your middle finger (B STRING) and, you're gonna go 5, 7, 8, 10.

Then actually, you're gonna go 10, 7, 8, 5, 7 and then, 7, 8, 10, 12, 10, 12. So, the whole first part, the whole slide part, is like this: Here's the tremelo part, the second part of the song. This is the easy one. It's simple: just play the 12th fret on the high E string.

That's it. That's really all there is to it. Here's the fancy picking part, which is the most  challenging part of the solo. You're gonna go 10, 9 ,7...

9, 7, 5... 7, 5, 3 5, 3, 2 3, 2, 0 (Open string) 2, 0pen, 3, but the 3 is going to be on the B String, 0pen E, 3 on the B string, 2, and the last part of this is on the B string... 3, 2, 0Pen. So, once again...

Finally, put it all together, but slowly at first. When you can put all three parts together slowly, then you're ready to speed it up. Go for it, and
see if you can get it to about 130 BPM, which is roughly five beats per minute faster than
the actual song. Next, I'm going to address some common questions
guitarists have when they first learn this solo.

If you think the fancy part is hard,
slow down. Honestly, you won't be able to play this part if you can't slow down and
totally sync up your picking and fretting hand. This is a widespread problem, fingers
and picking not matching up. The only way to solve it is to slow down.

If you'd like
more guidance on that, Check out the module for this guitar solo, and the link for that
is in the description. Some of you might be wondering how to get faster at tremelo picking.
Here's how you do it: First off, commit to practicing it five minutes a day. Put your
practice time as an actual event on your calendar, and set a timer for five minutes. In as far
as technique goes, keep your wrist super straight.

Then, pluck one string up and down on as fast
and as slow as you can. When your five minutes is up, walk away. In about
a month or so, this technique will totally be built up. If you're really having some trouble with
what I taught you in this video, you might want to consider checking out the paid module
for this guitar solo.

This module will help you nail the solo. It comes with three preliminary
exercises designed to help you practice the techniques you'd use in the solo, the optimal
fingering and picking as well as multiple angled shots of both, step-by-step instructions
of each of the three parts in great detail, Well-formatted guitar tablatures and downloads
of the guitar solo in parts as well as a whole, and how to practice this solo so as to completely
master it. You will totally be able to kill this solo after practicing what I show you
in the module. Anyhow, that's it for this tutorial as well
as shameless plugs for the module, but I do hope you enjoyed it nonetheless.

Please consider
subscribing to this channel. I'll be releasing tons of solo tutorials in the future. Also,
it'd be a pleasure to hear from you. Please feel free to comment on this video.

That would
be so cool. See you next time!.
